20 Mar 2009 - Written by Steve

The first of the AMI Breakfast Series sponsored by Fenton Stephens, was held on Wednesday 18, March at The Point, Albert Park.

Hosted by the AMI, it featured guest speaker Dr. Patrick Butler, Associate Professor in Marketing, Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne.

Dr. Patrick Butler presented his thoughts on how professional marketers should take advantage of the recession. It was a insightful presentation and breakfast overall.

When you see thet material Patrick Butler presented your first thought is; "yeh, this is all common sense" however, whoever it was that said 'common sense is not so common' was definately right! In the current economic climate the 'back to basics' principle certainly applies.
I'm sure FentonStephens has some thoughts about the good rat eating the weak and old non-performing brands; there are no doubt some of those brands that could be revived rather than done away with. The skill is to know which ones they are?
A thought provoking presentation and good value

Thanks for your input Dan. I particularly liked the point that the marketing manager must play politics in order to 'get' his share of the available discretionary funds - and that giving the CEO insights into consumer sentiment may well be a way of gettin on side the CEO?
Politics - yes. And reality - yes as well.
